The Roundhouse Event – Save The Date

All the pretty at The Roundhouse

So this last year we have been working really hard on our offer for our couples. We challenged ourselves to start creating something a little different, that’s where the #flowerslessordinary came from – our motivation to make things a little unexpected! So after a really busy summer we went on the road and attended some wonderful wedding shows so we could meet lots of excited couples and get to know them a little better. The first show was at The Roundhouse in Derby, which is a very gorgeous venue, full of quirks and original historical features. Even though it’s part of Derby College it hosts some truly amazing events and spectacular weddings! If you haven’t been, you should keep your eyes peeled for the next market on there – you won’t regret it.

Yeldersley Hall and a feast of friends

Have you been to Yeldersley Hall?

Yeldersley Hall is a charming family home, sitting just off the beaten track in rural Derbyshire. It has so many wonderful features that make it a wonderful venue for intimate, classic weddings.

With exclusive use and on site accommodation, it’s a really special, relaxed weekend wedding site that everyone can enjoy. We’ve dressed Yeldersley on many occasions for some of our favourite couples and it’s always a treat to return. I was thrilled to be asked back to help flower their latest offer, ready to showcase to their future couples.

As the objective of the day was to introduce the newest area of Yeldersley Hall, the stables, to the public, we wanted to trigger the imagination as to how it could add an extra element to the day. Our Moon prop creates the perfect portrait opportunity against that exposed brick work don’t you think?

Award winning flowers less ordinary

So, I won an award!

I’ve been a giddy kipper the last few weeks. As you may have already seen on social media I recently won “Wedding Florist of the Year, East Midlands Region”. While I obviously knew I was in the running as I had been nominated and had been contacting my couples to place a vote, I truly didn’t expect to win. So much so I went to hang out with my daughter at a Little Mix concert in Nottingham instead of attending the ceremony!

Laura and Dan at Orchard Farm, Cheshire

Somewhere new at Orchard Farm

I had the absolute pleasure of creating some dreamy summer bouquets and compote bowl designs for the Orchard Farm wedding of Laura and Dan. Now I had never been to Orchard Farm in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire before, but that was kinda the point! Groom Dan is an absolutely awesome wedding photographer and when he popped the question to the gorgeous Laura, he knew he didn’t want to marry his love where he’d shot a wedding before. The also knew they needed a place to party the night away, and set about a search for a barn where they wouldn’t be bothering anyone with all the fun, music and dancing!

Christy and Marc’s Sun filled day at Prestwold Hall

Freedom of choice

Christy and Marc married at Prestwold Hall and they were an awesome couple to work with on their wedding designs. Not only were they interesting, educated and a great double act when we met for coffee, but they were also kind and trusting enough to let me work MY way on their brief. They came to me as I had created designs for one of their bridesmaids weddings the previous year , you can see that wedding here, and loved the idea of something a little quirky and colourful that would suit the very elegant venue. They knew they wanted sunflowers, and they knew that blue would be an accent colour, but the rest was up to me!

Katie and Luke (on our anniversary) at Calke Abbey

Cool cats at Calke Abbey

Katie and her mom met me for coffee in a cute little cafe in Allestree when Katie was visiting for a few days from her home in London. Katie has very directional taste and was really clear what she wanted and how she wanted it!
She presented me with a PDF file of the bouquet inspirations, the hair flowers and the buttonholes she and Luke would require for their special day at The Riding School, Calke Abbey.

Helen and Jonny’s rock ‘n’ roll wedding The West Mill

Skulls – Check. Feathers – Check.  Hot bride – Check.

Helen and Jonny’s rock ‘n’ roll wedding took place in the early throws of spring at the ever stunning West Mill Venue, right here in Derbyshire.

After driving to two different locations for our first consultation ( we sat in 2 cafes with the same name in two different towns!) we finally got to sit down and talk all things wedding flowers, and it was apparent we were most certainly on the same page. Phew! This couple had a very clear brief to follow, ‘we want a skull with a floral crown’ ‘a trailing bouquet with pheasant feathers’ and ‘floral wreaths at the bottom of manzanita trees – but nothing naff!’ No problemo!

Kudos – Kind words from past couples

More than words?

Kudos. I was thrilled and humbled by the kind words so many of my wonderful couples wrote about me for my nomination in The Wedding Industry Awards 2017.  The awards tag line is ‘Recognising and Rewarding Excellence in the Wedding Industry’ and simply being recognised as achieving excellence in my work is an amazing thing. It makes the late nights, early mornings, standing in the cold and missing all sorts of personal events worth it when people take the time to tell you what you did meant something to them. So thanks to all those that took the time to vote for me, it means the world.
